When we bring a new baby doll home from store for our little ones, we are in fact adopting the baby doll. The Adora Adoption baby doll takes this theme and turns into fun pretend play.

Adora Adoption baby dolls are made to be high quality and fun to play with. If you’re considering buying one for your little one or as a gift for someone else, check out our parents’ guide to the Adora Adoption baby doll.

1. An Adora Adoption baby doll is a cute and cuddly newborn doll.

These baby dolls are specifically styled as newborns that are being brought home from the hospital the first time.

Unlike some baby dolls who are just sitting in a box on the shelf, Adora Adoption baby dolls have a “story.” All the packaging and contents build on the adoption theme layer by layer.

Adora Adoption baby dolls are also classic baby dolls. They don’t talk, eat food, tinkle, move, or poop. Nurturing and pretend play will come from your little one’s imagination.

2. Adora Adoption baby dolls are about the same size as a newborn.

The length and weight of Adora Adoption baby dolls gives the feel of a real newborn. Adora Adoption baby dolls are 16 inches (about 41 centimeters) long. Real, full term newborn babies have an average length of 18 to 22 inches. These baby dolls are probably slightly shorter so that they are easier to carry for ages 3+.

However, your little one won’t miss the extra 2 inches. In fact, we think the slightly shorter size also makes this doll more playable. A longer doll would be somewhat overwhelming and harder to fit in other doll furniture and clothes.

Adora Adoption baby dolls are bean bag weighted to give them a bit more movement and gentle heft. Thank goodness they aren’t the weight of real babies or your little one would get tired of carrying them.

3. Each baby doll comes with 8 accessories for immediate play.

Remember how we said the Adora Adoption baby doll takes the adoption theme to a new level? Check out the 8 accessories the baby doll comes with and how they contribute to the story:

  1. Certificate of adoption
  2. Pacifier
  3. Hospital bracelet
  4. Disposable diaper
  5. Baby blanket
  6. Full baby onesie
  7. Matching hat
  8. Crib

That’s a lot of accessories for one baby doll.

As soon as your little one opens the box, she’ll realize that Adora Adoption baby dolls come in their own cribs. This sturdy cardboard crib can be used over and over, as long as it doesn’t get wet. The crib is perfectly sized for the baby doll and is a nice touch because you won’t have to spend a fortune in doll accessories.

Each doll has a certificate of adoption that your little one can write her name and her baby’s name on and sign immediately.

Another cute touch is the hospital bracelet (this is a newborn right?), on which the names can also be written. The bracelet can be resnapped, so don’t cut it off like a real hospital bracelet!

Your little one’s Adora Adoption baby doll with come already swaddled in a two-tone microfiber blanket. There’s velcro conveniently placed on the blanket so the baby doll can be re-swaddled with ease.

These baby dolls also come in cotton onesies with attached footies and matching hats. Clothes can be gently removed by undoing the velcro in the back. Encourage your little one to gently change the clothes–like you would for a real baby–and this set will last a long time.

4. Adora Adoption baby dolls are the best combination of real babies and baby dolls.

These baby dolls have all the sweet cuteness of real babies without the messy clean up. Adora Adoption babies have a fresh baby powder scent reminiscent of new babies. The baby dolls have hand painted eyebrows and hair wisps that are a nice, extra touch.

Their faces are adorable without being scarily realistic or having a preset facial expression. We’ve seen some of the baby doll memes out there and they are scary. Fortunately, this doll is sweet.

One of the last real baby touches is the open/close eyes. When the Adora Adoption baby doll is laid down, the eye automatically close. Ok real babies don’t do this but it’s another lifelike feature. Although lots of baby dolls now come with open/close eyes, Adora Adoption baby dolls’ eyes have a smooth movement that remains smooth even after a number of plays.

5. These baby dolls can wear preemie baby clothes and diapers.

Since Adora Adoption babies are about the size and feel of real babies, you can use real baby clothes and diapers with them.

The best size baby clothes and diapers will be preemie.

Clothes should be easy to find at garage sales, Goodwill, or Walmart. If you want to buy them on Amazon and get clothes sent right to your door, here are a couple of our favorites.

For girls, this footie and hat set.

For boys, this 2 piece footie and cap set.

The included small disposable diaper with not snap after a few plays. Rather than buying more disposable diapers, consider getting 1 washable and reusable cloth diaper.

6. Adora Adoption baby dolls are not for water play.

Adora Adoption babies are vinyl and cloth, so they aren’t really made for water play. The vinyl parts are the head and neck, ¾ of the arms, and ¾ of the legs. The main body parts are a soft cloth, so Adora Adoption baby dolls are not machine washable and can’t get wet.

If you ever need to clean the baby doll, it’s best to do it with a slightly damp cloth or wet wipe.

7. Adora Adoption baby dolls are super high quality.

Have a little one with allergies or sensitive skin? No problem.

Your little one very likely to suck on a baby doll arm? No problem.

Adora Adoption babies are made to super high standards. In fact, higher standards than those required by the FDA or child safety organizations. Here’s how high quality these dolls are:

  • A+ from the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC): So you know these babies are safe. An added bonus is that you can rest assured that the 3+ age range is correct. We’ve seen some dolls that were supposedly for that range but contained some small parts that could end up in the ears, eyes, or throats of little ones.
  • BPA free: Biphenol A (BPA) is no longer allowed in baby bottles and food items, but an Adora Adoption baby doll is also BPA free. Makes sense! Just like bottles, baby dolls end up in children’s mouths so the doll should be BPA free. This is a step many toymakers haven’t taken yet.
  • Phthalate free: Phthalates were commonly used in toys (before they were banned) but can cause damage to children’s reproductive organs (among other health problems!). These chemicals can still be found in fake and low priced dolls made in China. Make sure that none of your little one’s baby dolls contain phthalates. If you’re not sure, don’t buy it!
  • Hypoallergenic: Adora Adoption babies have been designed and tested so that they don’t cause as many irritations and reactions as other dolls might. Your little allergy sufferer can rub these dolls all over themselves with no problem.

8. Choose from 5 baby dolls.

Adora Adoption babies come with different skins tones and eye colors. There’s even a boy!

Here are the babies:

Editor’s Review of the Adora Adoption Baby Doll

What We Like

  • Baby dolls have the look and smell of a real newborn while being cute and not realistically scary.
  • Safety tested, BPA free, phthalate free, and hypoallergenic.
  • Each Adora Adoption baby doll comes with 8 accessories.

What We Don’t Like

  • There are some great accessories included with Adora Adoption baby dolls, so why not throw in a bottle?
  • Great skin tone and eye color options, but we’d like to see a brown skin boy in the lineup.

Final Verdict

Adora Adoption babies are a classic, keepsake baby doll. If you’re going to spend your hard earned money on one expensive baby doll, this baby is definitely a contended. Adora Adoption baby dolls are made to higher than the highest quality standards and offer enough accessories to be played with right out of the box. We also love the “story” of adoption that ties the doll and accessories together.
